Rosina Stohwasser friendship and photo album, 1856-1860.

This album contains holograph poems (including a translation by Matilda Plumley); holograph music by Wilhelm Ganz, his uncle Leopold Ganz, and his brother Eduard Ganz; portraits of members of the Stohwasser family; greeting cards (birthday, Christmas, and New Year's); a few engravings and watercolors; 88 photographs of paintings; and travel photographs. Portraits include Amalia, Cecilia, Frank, Georgina, and Josephine Stohwasser; Emelia Stubs Taylor; and C.V. Biggs. Travel photos include scenes in Eastbourne, England; Nuremberg, Germany; Lucerne, Switzerland; Wales; and of Canterbury Cathedral and Lake of Thun. The photographs of paintings represent mostly religious and animal scenes.

Ganz, Wilhelm, 1833-1914

Wilhelm Ganz was a conductor, pianist, organist, violinist, and composer born in Mainz, Germany in 1833. HIs father Adolf Ganz was Kapellmeister of the Mainz Opera. Father and son visited London in 1848 and emigrated there in 1851. Wilhelm Ganz earned his reputation as an accompanist of famous singers, including Jenny Lind and Adelina Patti. He became sole conductor of Henry Wylde's New Philharmonic Society orchestra in 1879, changing the concert presentations to "Mr. Ganz's Orchestral Concerts"...
